EASTER HAS GONE: NOW WHAT?
First Evangelical Church of Albany
Pastor Ron Harlin
Once a year we have a very sacred holiday called Easter. It falls on a different Sunday depending on the full moon and the vernal equinox. But I will leave that to the scientists.
On Easter Sunday, millions of people flock to church to celebrate the “resurrection of our Lord Jesus”. Then, most of us rush home to have a great dinner, and perhaps an egg hunt with the younger (older?) family members. Then Monday morning comes and for many Easter is forgotten until the next year.
However, for the one who truly believes that Jesus is the Son of God, Easter is not forgotten, but becomes a daily celebration.
Consequently, we must examine ourselves daily. This is not an option, or a yearly event. In I John 2:6 the Bible says, “the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked” (NASB 1995).
So, Easter becomes an everyday occurrence as we abide in Jesus. This literally means to allow Jesus to take up permanent residence through the Holy Spirit; then allowing Him to supply each one of us with the necessary spiritual energy to “walk in the same manner as Jesus walked”. This is a walk of love.
This is a very difficult mandate to live out in our daily lives. But we must strive to do so, allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us. Let us then, strive to make Easter an everyday celebration in our lives!
